What to See & Do in Portland

Portland has tons of things to see and do including: OMSI (the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry), the nations fifth largest science museum, the Oregon Zoo, and the Children's Museum where a strict "please touch" policy is enforced.  If you are looking for adventure you'll want to pack your swimwear and head for the indoor North Clackamas Aquatic Park, where you can ride four foot waves and water slides, or, visit an old fashioned amusement park.  Oaks Amusement Park features roller coasters, thrill rides, a train, go carts and bumper cars for all to enjoy.

Oregon Zoo - Trek through the tropics amid the sounds of birds, monkeys and other creatures.  You’re not in West Africa; you’re in Portland at the zoo’s Africa Rain Forest exhibit. After you’ve survived the steamy tropics, dry off in the savanna, where giraffes, rhinos and hippos graze. From the tundras of Alaska to the coastal waters of Peru, you’ll travel around the world in an afternoon at the Oregon Zoo. Open daily at 9 a.m.; closing hours are seasonal. The Grotto - Set among 62 acres of botanical gardens, The Grotto is an internationally renowned Catholic sanctuary offering a place of quiet reflection for all people of the Earth. More than 100 beautifully sculpted statues and shrines are nestled along The Grotto's flower-lined pathways and under its towering firs. Gleaming reflection ponds, spectacular cliff-side vistas and award-winning architecture offer inspiration for all who wander through this natural gallery in the woods.Gardens and gift shop are open daily; group tours and daily Mass are also offered. Chinese Garden - Master architects designed this magical garden. Artisans, practicing craftsmanship perfected centuries ago, came from China to build it. Portland's Classical Chinese Garden is the largest urban Suzhou-style garden ever created beyond China's borders.  Here, in the midst of Portland's urban bustle, you'll discover an infinite number of views that change with each new vantage point. Rugged rocks and serpentine walkways are reflected in the lake. A concert of raindrops plays on a banana leaf. Colors in clouds can be seen from the Tea House. A tree dares to bloom in the snow. Mount St. Helens -  Knowledge is the essence of the learning process, a revelation that holds especially true for those who visit Mount St. Helens. Oregon Coast Aquarium - Voted one of the nation's top 10 aquariums by Parade magazine, the Oregon Coast Aquarium showcases 10,000 sea creatures. Opening Memorial Day weekend is our new Passages of the Deep exhibit, where the only thing separating you from a shark's razor-sharp teeth is three inches of acrylic. Suspended above our ocean floor, a 200-foot acrylic tunnel puts you in the midst of sharks and rays. Surging waves and a sunken shipwreck make this deep-sea adventure one of a kind. Outside, seals, sea lions and Adaa, our newest and cutest otter, swim and play. Wilsonville Family Fun Center - This amazing six-acre amusement park provides a fun and clean atmosphere, safe attractions, great food, and entertainment the whole family will enjoy. Outside attractions include two 18-hole miniature golf courses, bumper boats, batting cages and go-karts. Inside are a two-story arcade, laser tag, "Kidopolis" (indoor soft play), frog hopper, a Max flight simulator and a restaurant. Located off I-5, Exit 283 in Wilsonville (20 miles south of Portland). Mt. Hood Railroad - Excursion Train - Dinner Train -  Brunch Train  Built in 1906, this historic railroad takes passengers on four-hour scenic tours from the Columbia Gorge to the foothills of Mount Hood. Vintage coaches carry you through the Hood River Valley from April through December. Enjoy the narrated excursion train, which includes an hour layover in the town of Parkdale at the base of Mount Hood; or dine leisurely on board the classic dinner and brunch trains.
